How Business Should View Twitter

Twitter is a free micro-blogging site that allows up to 140 characters. It has yet to incorporate any visible form of revenue-generation. However, it member-growth is quite explosive and there are a number of applications that support it

How should you utilise it?

1) For starters create for yourself! Ensure that your Twitter name is memorable and reflects your company's online branding presence.

2) Encourage your business peers to create one too :) If your company is called "OPL", you can name it oplthomaslee for a person named Thomas Lee. Thus there is an online presence for OPL

3) The 140 character requirement (140cr) could be quite cumbersome but u can use http://www.tinyurl.com to shorten the website address. The 140cr is also very useful for people who are used to text-messaging.

4) Search for people who are on Twitter using search. There are a number of famous people here (besides President Obama).

5) Locate their websites, blogs and send an introductory message. I have also connected with a number of Twitter friends through Facebook.

6) Get to know people who follow you on Twitter...they are an important source of market research and networking. The strength of Twitter is its laid back and honest atmosphere. People are quite willing to provide genuine and useful feedback for your company's products.

7) Learn how to promote your company to the large Twitter community. Do not just broadcast about your services. Share knowledge and you will be perceived as a subject-expert.

Best wishes
