Twitter is an online tool where people can post a maximum of 140 characters in one message. It has also been referred to as a Microblogging tool.
Here are some ways in which mentoring can be aided with Twitter:
- Twitter platform is very versatile and can be used 1-1 mentoring through DM and then evolving to a many-2 model.
- Twitter can looked upon as a open MSN conferencing tool.
- Twitter has a search function called Trending Topics where popular topics are discussed. The mentor can bring up as a discussion some of these topics as a warm-up.
- Twitter can be used as a form of direct feedback about the organisation. However, this must be used with extreme care as privacy issues may be involved.
- The 140-character limit is a good way in which the main points of discussion can be condensed and important 2-way discussion can be started.
